Counselor in the psychosocial field (AFPE)  (Rapperswil):
2 Provider - 2 Training locations

There are extensive requirements for admission to the Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) for psychosocial counselors leading to a federal diploma. Among other things, depending on the educational path, continuing education and training at the tertiary level and several years of professional experience in a counseling role within a psychosocial context are required. Admission is also possible without a degree at the tertiary level, though this requires a longer period of professional experience.

In addition, proof is required, among other things, of:

• At least 20 counseling processes, comprising a total of at least 100 sessions
• 40 hours of client-centered supervision
• 40 hours of psychosocial counseling as a client
• at least eight sessions of a supervision or intervision group over a period of at least two years
• At least one year of supervision by a supervisor as part of competency-based counseling supervision

The AFPE Psychosocial Counseling program therefore requires not only completion of the training program, but also extensive practical experience and personal reflection. The specific admission requirements must be met at the time of exam registration.

If you are aiming to earn the federal certification, you should therefore check early on which requirements you already meet and which proofs of practical experience and supervision you still need to obtain.

You can become a counsellor by completing a counsellor training course, which should be recognized and certified by the Swiss Association for Counselling (SGfB). This is because they train psychologically oriented counsellors from the fields of individual, couple and family counselling as well as from the field of counselling for groups, institutions and organizations. With the Psychosocial Counselor training, you will be able to counsel people with the aim of managing their lives independently, overcoming crises and developing themselves further. Those who successfully complete the Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) become experts in the profession and can use the protected title "Counselor in the psychosocial field with a federal diploma".
