How to learn with autistic people requires a great deal of empathy and sound specialist knowledge. This can be acquired in further training or a course such as the CAS Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Coaching.

In training to become an autism coach/job coach, you will learn the following:

• Introduction to the core topics of autism coaching
• To learn about the differences in autism, its comorbidities and how to deal with them. As an affected person, partner, parent, teacher, kindergarten teacher, social pedagogue, remedial teacher, trainer, supervisor, employer, etc.
• Find out more about the many special skills of people with autism
• Find out more about the special challenges faced by people with autism and the many effective aids available
• Autism at school, education, work, relationships, autism as a challenge, as an opportunity
• Communication, solution-oriented discussion and dealing with conflicts

Basically, you work with people on the autism spectrum in educational, curative education and therapeutic settings.

Various further training courses in the field of autism coaching offer an in-depth insight and specific discussion for the work.

An autism coach works with a solution- and resource-oriented, systemic approach in the sense of helping people to help themselves. According to the systemic approach, this means, for example, that the more stable and secure the parents feel in dealing with ASD, the child and their needs, the more empowering and stabilizing this will be for the child and their environment. The Praxis für Lösungs-Impulse also works with the affected person's environment, building up a network of other professionals around the person according to the case management approach.

Depending on the type, scope and focus of the autism coach training, the following prerequisites may be required:

• Minimum age 18 years
• Completed basic training
• Indirectly or directly affected by autism or professional needs
• Partial basic coaching training or counselor training

In a course for specialization in the field of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), professionals from the field of (remedial) education and therapy learn how to deal professionally with people on the autism spectrum.

As a job coach for people with autism, you need to know the following:

• know what autism is from a medical point of view
• Know possible comorbidities
• know the suffering of affected children, adolescents and adults
• know what special features to look out for when dealing with affected persons as an employer/as a coach etc.
• can adequately support an affected person on his/her path, with school/educational issues
• know how an autism coaching process is structured and can put it into practice
• know what options are available to finance autism coaching (note: autism is relevant to IV)
• know the basics of coaching, counseling
• can move in their role as coach/consultant, including their boundaries
• know the framework conditions of a coaching conversation
• know the process of a solution-oriented discussion and can conduct such a discussion
• know how they can adequately support and accompany an affected person in relation to their work
• have effective tools for use in coaching/dealing with a person concerned
