Training as a professional counselor paves the way for many new career opportunities for people who want to develop their skills in the social, educational or legal fields. As a professional counselor, you are responsible for people of all ages who need support with decisions and tasks in the legal and personal area - e.g. with questions and issues in the financial, family or health area.

The professional guardianship training course provides basic knowledge about child and adult protection law (KESR), social insurance, mandate management and support, advice and communication. Participants also acquire sound skills in conducting discussions, resolving conflicts and interdisciplinary cooperation in order to be able to take on the professional management of legal mandates later on.

Most schools offer the vocational assistance training course in modules, so that it can also be completed while working. The target group for this course includes people who have completed training or a degree - preferably in social work, law, education or nursing - but also career changers with relevant professional experience. Theoretical principles are combined with practical case studies in the classroom to enable direct practical transfer into everyday working life.

As the shortage of specialists in legal guardianship is very high, graduates of this continuing education, further training have good opportunities on the job market. Qualified specialists in the field of guardianship are particularly sought after by municipal social services, child and adult protection authorities (KESB) and for private mandates.

According to the federal government's salary calculator, professional counselors earn an average of CHF 7,000 per month. Of course, this varies depending on previous education, age, region and seniority.

A "cert." is the designation for a certificate awarded by a school or training provider. Unlike "FPE" for Federal Professional Examination, for example, certificate courses are not federally regulated, meaning that each school can determine the content, examinations and guidelines for each individual course independently. For you, this means that if you are interested in continuing education, further training to become an assistant in any field with a certificate, you should always ask all eligible providers about the most important criteria of the course in order to find the right offer.
