You do not necessarily need 150 hours of basic medical knowledge to carry out craniosacral therapy, but it is highly recommended. However, proof of this basic medical training is a prerequisite for registering the craniosacral method with the EMR.

Training opportunities in craniosacral therapy exist primarily in the form of complementary therapy training courses with EMR recognition as well as the new Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE). In addition, you will find a variety of other training and further education courses in this field.

In order to obtain the OdA KT industry certificate for craniosacral therapy, you must complete modules on the method, Tronc Commun KT and an internship in craniosacral therapy, a final thesis and a competence-oriented final examination after completing upper-secondary level. Long-standing practitioners can also obtain the industry diploma in complementary therapy via an equivalence procedure.

Craniosacral therapy training is part of complementary therapy and method identification (METID) craniosacral therapy. The method training usually takes around 3 years. Anyone wishing to obtain the federal AFPE qualification as a complementary therapist in the craniosacral therapy method must also complete the Tronc Commun and an internship in addition to the method training.

For admission to the Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE KT) with the craniosacral therapy method, you must have a qualification at upper-secondary level as well as the OdA KT industry certificate. Before registering for the examination, you must also have supervision (at least 36 hours) and two to three years' professional experience in craniosacral therapy (with a workload of 50% or 30%).
