The MarKom program was the perfect introduction to marketing, sales, and communications. All the necessary skills were taught in a concise manner. The certification exam then assessed basic knowledge in the areas of business, law, marketing, sales, distribution, and communication. This gives you a solid foundation for advanced Federal Professional Examinations in marketing, sales, or communications.

The very last MarKom certification exam (MZP) took place on December 5, 2023.According to the Official MarKom Organization, no further exams have been administered since then, as the certification program has been discontinued. We recommend the training program insteadMarketing and Sales Administrator.

MarKom: Your Gateway to the Communications Industry

The MarKom certification exam was held for the last time in December 2023. The certificate, which was popular throughout Switzerland, has not been issued since then.

The MarKom Association was responsible for ensuring the quality of basic training in marketing, communication, and sales. A MarKom basic training program provided foundational knowledge in marketing, sales, distribution, communication, business administration, and law, and culminated in the MarKom certificate. The certificate opened doors to all marketing specializations and thus offered various career opportunities. It also facilitated entry into advanced training programs leading to a federally recognized qualification (Federal Professional Examination (FPE) with a Federal Diploma of Higher Education).

The MarKom certification exam has existed since 2007 and, until 2018, was a prerequisite for various Federal Professional Examinations in this field, such as the Federal Diploma of Higher Education for PR Specialists or the Federal Diploma of Higher Education for Marketing Specialists. The responsible body, the MarKom Association, is composed of representatives from the following associations: FAIR (Fédération des Agents Indépendants et Représentants), KS Kommunikation Schweiz, KV Schweiz, pr suisse (Swiss Public Relations Association SPRV), SDV (Swiss Dialog Marketing Association), Swiss Marketing SMC, and Verkauf Schweiz.

Graduates of the MarKom exam are entitled to use the title “MarKom Assistant.” They work in marketing, PR, communications, or sales departments of companies of all sizes and in all industries, where they typically hold a clerical or assistant position.

Alternative to the previous MarKom training program:With the courseMarketing and Sales SpecialistYou can gain a solid foundation in marketing and sales and specifically prepare for advanced training programs, such as becoming a marketing specialist with a Federal Diploma of Higher Education.

Questions and answers

The MarKom certification exam is not a federally recognized training program, but rather an examination established by the industry associations pr suisse (Swiss Public Relations Association—SPRV), Swiss Advertising (SW), Sales Switzerland (VS), Swiss Marketing (SMC), the Swiss Direct Marketing Association (SDV), the Swiss Society for Marketing (GfM), and FAIR (Fédération des Agents Indépendants et Réprésentants), and is valid for five years. Until the 2018 exam year, it was considered a prerequisite for admission to the five Federal Professional Examinations leading to a federal certificate in these fields. Even today, however, the MarKom certificate still enjoys a good reputation nationwide.

As a MarCom assistant, you can complete the following advanced courses:

  • Professional examination for a Federal Diploma of Higher Education as:
    • PR specialist
    • Sales specialist
    • Marketing specialist
    • Communications specialist
    • Copywriter
  • Certificate courses on in-depth topics in marketing
