What are the admission requirements for the Bachelor's degree in Medical Informatics?
To be admitted to the Bachelor's degree program in Medical Informatics, applicants need either an apprenticeship with Federal VET Diploma and Federal Vocational Baccalaureate in a related profession or a non-related profession with a one-year internship in a field related to medical informatics. Persons with a Federal Vocational Baccalaureate but without a Federal Vocational Baccalaureate can be admitted to the Federal Vocational Baccalaureate Examination (EBMP) after individual preparation and thus meet the admission requirements for the course. Persons with a Baccalaureate or Specialized Baccalaureate can also be admitted after one year of qualified practical training, as can applicants with a Federal VET Diploma and Advanced Federal Diploma of Higher Education (Achtung: Engl.) and a CHE diploma in a related field. The University of Applied Sciences will inform you about the current admission requirements.
Is it possible to study for a Bachelor's degree in Medical Informatics while working?
It is not possible to study for a Bachelor CHE in Medical Informatics while working. However, you can aim to study part-time, which means you will have to invest fewer hours per semester and therefore per week in lectures, courses and self-study than in full-time study, giving you more time to devote to a reduced professional activity or your family.
Is there also an MAS in Medical Informatics?
Yes, there is also a postgraduate course leading to a Master of Advanced Studies MAS in Medical Informatics. This Master's program consists of the certificate courses CAS Research and Project Management, CAS Design and Risk Management in Medical Informatics, CAS Requirements Engineering and Validation in Medical Informatics, CAS Procurement and Logistics in Medical Informatics and the Master's thesis. Other CAS from the fields of management, business informatics and computer science are also possible and can be exchanged with the above-mentioned courses, with the exception of the first module in Research and Project Management.
What degree do I obtain after the Medical Informatics Bachelor's degree?
After successfully completing their studies, graduates receive a "Bachelor of Science in Medical Informatics" certificate.
Which modules does the Bachelor in Medical Informatics include?
The Medical Informatics BA program consists of compulsory, compulsory elective and elective modules, all of which must comprise at least 180 ETCS credits. The following compulsory modules must be taken: Mathematics for Medical Informatics, Medical Statistics, Software Engineering and Design, Databases, Introduction to Programming, Networks, Foundations of Informatics & Informatics Systems, Programming Methods, Algorithms and Data Structures, Web and App Technologies, as well as Information Security, Interoperability, Clinical Trials, Healthcare and medical informatics, patient pathways and processes, hospital and practice organization, medical documentation and classification, e-health and telemedicine, anatomy and physiology, TQMi in hospital informatics, information systems in healthcare, quality management in healthcare, business administration in healthcare, and medicine and ethics. In addition, there are communication courses in the mother tongue and foreign languages, several courses in law, management, projects, seminars and for the Bachelor's thesis. How long does the Medical Informatics BA course take?
As a full-time course, the Bachelor's degree in Medical Informatics takes 6 semesters; as a part-time course, it takes 9 semesters.
