How long does further training to become a "Production Specialist (BP)" take and how much does it cost?

Duration and procedure

The preparatory courses to become a production specialist can be completed on a part-time basis.
They have a modular structure and last 2-3 semesters.
The courses comprise 580 lessons.
They usually take place two days a week (Monday and Saturday or Friday and Saturday). There is also a block week for the work methodology and leadership module.
If 10 candidates meet the admission requirements, the professional examination for production specialists takes place once a year in October (as of 2021). The federal examination can be taken in one of the three official languages German, French and Italian.

The fees for the preparatory courses for the professional examination for production specialists are between CHF 9,9000 and CHF 13,600.
The examination fee is CHF 1,800 (as of 2021) excluding the fee for issuing the federal certificate and entry in the SERI register.
Some providers add costs for training documents, teaching materials or seminar hotel. Please contact the provider of your choice directly and request a detailed list of fees and the services included.
Since 2018, graduates of continuing education courses that prepare for a professional examination (BP) or higher professional examination (HFP) have received financial support from the federal government. Once you have passed the federal examination, you will receive up to half of the training costs back from the federal government upon application (regardless of the result). If you complete the course to prepare for the federal examination for production specialists at a Swissmechanic/VMTW training partner and your employer is a member of Swissmechanic and pays into the vocational training fund, you will be reimbursed around CHF 700 of the study costs in addition to the federal contributions.
