Questions and answers

Effective talent management enables an organization to identify, develop and retain qualified employees. An independent department helps to increase employee satisfaction by actively looking after the development of employees. A professional talent management department helps to build a resilient corporate culture and improve the effectiveness of the organization.

Our talents are diverse, but difficult to discover. To do this, we need to sit down and take a targeted look at our abilities - and not just at what we can't do. Our strengths and talents are what make us successful. Talent tests or talent managers can help with this.

What prevents people from developing themselves? On the one hand, it is the lack of attitude (self-doubt, lack of self-confidence, blockages, etc.) that is an obstacle; on the other hand, lack of time and lack of finances are repeatedly mentioned. The attitude can be changed. Time and money are excuses, because there are plenty of examples of people who have achieved something without a financial cushion and with little free time. If the why, the vision, the desire is big enough, there are always opportunities. It is often necessary to rethink and adapt your own convictions. People live and act according to certain patterns of perception, thought and action based on their life history. We have a certain image of ourselves (self-image) and our environment has an image of us (external image). We find it difficult to deviate from this image (to develop), or worse still, we firmly believe that this image is correct because the experiences of our previous lives have taught us this.

In principle, you can promote artistic talent in the same way as sporting talent. Sports talents invest a lot of time and energy in their sporting development. Artistic talents invest the same amount of time in their artistic development. Basically, the aim is to keep the normal transfer of knowledge compact and focused so that there is more time for personal talent development, competitions, training camps, etc.

A classic talent test is the aptitude test, which is usually used when looking for an apprenticeship. This vocational check is an aptitude assessment that compares the young person's academic and intellectual abilities with the requirements of the apprenticeship. The aptitude assessment can be carried out either at the training company or at the young person's home.

Here are six good steps to discover and utilize your strengths:

  1. Create a list of possible strengths (positive characteristics)
  2. Create a second list of your own weaknesses
  3. talk to your fellow human beings and get their opinion
  4. Carry out online tests such as the DISG profile or Big Five
  5. Sort out - delete all characteristics that definitely do not belong to your personal strengths
  6. align and prioritize

Everyone has talents and strengths - including you. The steps above will help you get to know yourself better and make better use of your strengths in the future.

In many organizations, talent management is primarily practiced through talent identification and process management. However, the flexibility required in complex, agile environments can rarely be achieved with these rigid models. If talent management wants to promote and make employee potential accessible in new organizational forms, it must abandon the old linear way of thinking and acting and become non-linear, agile and flexible, just like the business. This is agile talent management.

Successful talent development requires gifted and motivated learners who are willing to engage in intensive learning processes. However, only those talented individuals who find a learning environment in which performance is actively encouraged, supported and recognized will perform at their best. Successful talent promotion therefore requires the commitment of companies, vocational schools and industry associations that recognize the benefits of talent promotion in vocational education and training and actively support it with support measures.

Of course, the primary purpose of promoting sport and the arts is to promote talent. However, it is not entirely altruistic on the part of politicians or sports associations. Those who support artists, art spaces, events and publications also promote the creation of new works and their presentation. Or in sport, there are new sporting talents who are important for the clubs and their successes.

Self-development - or self-realization - stands for the unfolding or living out of one's own personality: this includes one's own abilities, talents, wishes and desires. Self-development refers to the realization of the aforementioned points and aims to bring one's own being to fruition and thereby exploit one's individual talents and possibilities. Self-development means leading the life you want to lead, which leads to well-being and success.

You discover new talents when you dare to try something new. When you push yourself to your limits. And not always saying straight away that you can't do this or that because you've never done it before. This process is possible at any time and should always take place in life. Of course, this is particularly important for "discovering your own talents" in childhood in order to give life the best possible direction.

An above-average talent is a talent - something that you can do better than average. The term talent refers to the natural, usually innate ability to achieve certain things. Like all abilities, it can atrophy without stimulation, but with encouragement and suitable socio-cultural conditions it can grow and develop for the benefit of the individual and the community in which they live.

Some vocational schools and industry associations already offer measures to promote talented students to support and supplement in-company support. In addition to free courses, which mainly take place as part of school education, mobility programs and competitions as well as bilingual teaching are excellent methods of promoting the professional and personal skills of talented learners. The in-depth examination of one's own strengths and their further development brings joy and usually also good feedback. There are also special programs to promote talent or the search for suitable training or continuing education, further training.
