How long does secondary school take and how much does it cost?

Duration and procedure

For children and young people:

The duration of short and long-term grammar schools depends on the canton, the number of years of primary school and the regulations governing entry to grammar school directly from elementary school (long-term grammar school) or following lower secondary level (short-term grammar school). It is 3-6 years.

For adults:

Full-time baccalaureate courses for adults last 6-7 semesters (with approx. 24-30 lessons per week). There are also highly intensive shorter courses; however, these require enormous personal capacities and a more than solid basic education.

Part-time courses for adults, alongside which a professional activity of 40-80% is possible, are usually based on 7 semesters (from 8 lessons per week). There are also courses that are based entirely on self-study at the beginning and only combine this with classroom teaching in the later semesters.
