Three reasons for choosing Careum University of Applied Sciences Health

Help shape the part-time degree program flexibly.
The study models are flexible and tailored to the needs of working professionals. All degree courses have a modular structure. Previously acquired qualifications are taken into account for admission. This allows you to combine your studies with your career or family life.

Study with a practical orientation and benefit for your work.
The course content is based on current knowledge that is consistently geared towards the practical requirements of the Swiss healthcare system. Students benefit from developments in practice and the latest findings from research. The course enables students to make intelligent decisions in the daily conflict between individual quality of life in the event of illness and disability and the structural framework conditions of the healthcare industry. Clinical contexts, ethical principles and knowledge of health and disease determinants underpin these decisions.

Competent and networked.
Nursing science and management courses are part of the core competence of the Kalaidos University of Applied Sciences Health. The long-standing contacts of the program directors with national and international partners from practice and Universities are incorporated here. In various modules, students gain an insight into the innovative research and development projects of Careum R+D and how the results can be used promptly for nursing practice.

Offer

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing specialization in Geriatrics
Alignment
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) is a clinically oriented nursing degree program. The focus is on primary patient care. Students learn to systematically assess the care needs of patients and to manage the nursing process based on reflected empirical knowledge and current research findings from nursing science and related sciences. After completing the course, graduates will be able to provide theory-based nursing care to people of all ages. They are able to train and advise patients and their relatives. They are able to work on projects in a goal-oriented and cooperative manner, particularly in quality development and the application of research. Graduates' working methods are characterized by the consistent and appropriate use of nursing science and medical terminology.

Study structure
The BScN postgraduate course for qualified nurses is offered on a part-time basis and lasts 18 months. Variations in the duration of the course are possible depending on previous education and can be arranged individually. In addition to part-time study, students can work up to 50% of the time. Students attend classes on a fixed day of the week. The degree program has a modular structure. With the completion of each module, students earn credit points in accordance with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). One ECTS credit point corresponds to 25 - 30 hours of study. 90 ECTS credits are required for the Bachelor's degree in postgraduate studies, divided into 60 theory-based ECTS credits and 30 ECTS credits in the practical module. Modules can also be taken individually.

The Master of Science in Nursing (MScN) program with two specializations 'Applied Research' and 'Clinical Excellence'

Alignment
The Master of Science in Nursing (MScN) degree program model is optimally geared towards practice in the healthcare sector. The starting point for the course is a need for data and development on a nursing-relevant topic in companies, organizations or authorities. A project is realized for this purpose. High-performing nursing staff carry out the project in a real working environment throughout the course. This gives students and practitioners a unique opportunity to participate. The Kalaidos University of Applied Sciences Health takes over the professional and scientific project support. Candidates submit a project outline with their application. From the beginning of the course, they develop the project organization and research design and achieve results by the end of the course. If prospective students do not have their own project options, the topics of the research and development projects of Careum Forschung, the research institute of the Kalaidos University of Applied Sciences Health, are an option.

Study structure
The MScN program with the two specializations 'Applied Research' or 'Clinical Excellence' is offered part-time and lasts 2.5 - 4 years. The duration of the program varies depending on the number of modules attended per year. In addition to part-time study, students can work 40-70% of the time. On average, students attend classes on 3 days per month (Thursdays). The course has a modular structure. With the completion of each module, students earn credit points in accordance with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). One ECTS credit point corresponds to 25 - 30 hours of study. 90 ECTS credits are required for the MScN degree.
