Becoming a professional guardian does not necessarily require specific training, but rather a professional field of activity. As a rule, access to this activity is via a degree in social work, education, law or via a professional guardianship training course with a certificate, which is also open to career changers.

As a professional guardian, you support or represent affected persons in the areas of responsibility defined by the KESB to the extent of their individual support needs. The focus is always on the well-being and protection of the person concerned.

In principle, any person of legal age can become a guardian. Anyone wishing to become a professional guardian, i.e. enter the field of professional guardianship, usually has a professional background in social work, law, nursing or pedagogy, but this is not mandatory.
