The aim of the CAS in Information Engineering is to learn how to handle structured data, for example from data warehouses or databases, and semi-structured and unstructured data, for example from text documents, videos, blogs or images, and to learn how to use procedures and methods for information system design and development. Participants learn which scripting methods are suitable for data processing, the basics of relational databases and filtering in SQL, the benefits of data warehouses and data integration from different systems. You will learn what is behind big data and how to use sentiment analysis to increase customer satisfaction.

The most important prerequisite for admission to the certificate course in Information Engineering is basic programming knowledge in an unspecified programming language. In addition, participants should preferably have a university degree. However, professional practitioners with equivalent skills and professional experience may also be admitted to the course. The Universities will decide on admission on a case-by-case basis.

The educational program in Information Engineering is a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS), which is part of the DAS Data Science diploma program and the MAS Data Science master's program.

The certificate course in information management in the form of the CAS Information Engineering consists of a total of four modules: Scripting; Databases and Data Warehousing; Information Retrieval; and Big Data. A software engineer develops, analyzes and designs software, ensures the quality and maintains the applications. The information engineer, on the other hand, deals with the generation, collection, processing, distribution and presentation of information. Both are therefore required for the production and maintenance of software.

Yes, there is also a Master's in Data Engineering. The Master of Science in Engineering in the Data Science profile teaches the knowledge and skills of how to collect, store and process data in order to transform it into valuable information and actionable knowledge. However, the prerequisite for this is a Bachelor's degree in Data Engineering and thus the path via a degree course instead of CAS certificate courses.
