Yes, it is necessary that you already have professional experience in this field before studying Childhood Education CHE (formerly: Childhood Education CHE):

• If you have a Federal VET Diploma or a secondary school leaving certificate, you must have worked in the field of childhood education for at least 400 hours prior to the Childhood Education CHE course; this corresponds to approximately six months of full-time work.
• If you have a purely academic upper-secondary level qualification (Matura), you need 800 hours of professional experience in the field of childhood education.

A purely theoretical CHE Childhood Education course (as the course has been called since 2021) would not serve the purpose and is therefore not offered. Prospective certified childhood educators CHE acquire their skills and qualifications through both academic and practical training, which takes the form of internships in various fields of activity. In the case of part-time training, the internships are replaced by at least 50 percent work experience in the professional field.
