Medical secretaries work in the secretariat of private medical or dental practices, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes or public insurance companies and health insurance funds. They are responsible for all administrative work, organizational issues and sometimes for managing patient data.
In concrete terms, their tasks look something like this:
- Receiving new patients, recording personal details, creating and archiving medical histories
- Organize consultation hours, arrange appointments with patients
- Dealing with general correspondence
- Writing medical reports and expert opinions
- Issue and send medical invoices (based on the Tarmed rates)
- Monitor payment transactions, write reminders and keep accounts
