Is your professional goal in the field of fashion, design, textiles and design? Would you like to make a career as a fashion designer?

The Fashion Design course at the University of Applied Sciences (HF) opens the door to a successful career as a textile designer. The course is aimed at those who have successfully completed an apprenticeship as a clothing designer, but is also open to interested career changers without professional experience in textiles, design and fashion. As the course has a modular structure, only individual modules can be completed. This course provides you with all the know-how and tools you need for a successful career as a fashion designer! It is also a very solid foundation for a later course in fashion design at a university of applied sciences.

The various modules encourage graduates to discover and apply their own personal and individual style. They are challenged to think and act unconventionally, which brings exciting resources to light and unleashes completely new creative paths. Participants in this course gain helpful orientation within this fascinating and multi-layered world of fashion and open up a path full of inspiring discoveries. The first very personal designs are created and realized during the course. Two- and three-dimensional design is the main focus of the course. Collage, drawing and color techniques of fashion design are taught and refined in a practical way. The teachers impart basic know-how about the various materials, techniques and processes.

Questions and answers

The CHE degree course in Fashion Design lasts six semesters and comprises 5,400 hours of study.

Fashion designers CHE can find employment in very different areas, for example in publishing in fashion editing or advertising, in set and costume design for film, television and theater, as an assistant to a fashion team, as an employee of a trend office, in purchasing, customer service or merchandising, in a studio where fashion is made individually for the customer or, of course, as a freelancer in fashion design.

If the admission requirements are met, prospective students of the CHE Fashion Design course can register online for the CHE Fashion Design course. They will then receive a topic for which they must submit a project assignment, as well as work documentation and a letter of motivation. After a positive decision, they will be invited to an admissions interview, which will decide whether they are accepted onto the course.

Prospective fashion designers receive a sound training in craftsmanship, design and technology during the CHE course in Fashion Design. Students are taught conceptual thinking, creative work, recognizing trends and style tendencies and working independently on designs, from idea development to production. They learn about different design options, current textile industry technologies, cultural-historical contexts, the latest fashion, economic and social developments and acquire skills that enable them to represent, document and present their ideas professionally. Financial business management as well as legal guidelines and framework conditions are also part of the fashion design course.

After completing their training at the College of Higher Education, fashion design students are awarded the federally recognized title of: graduate designer CHE production design with a specialization in fashion design.

R+F offers state-recognized degree courses in Film (part-time), Photography, Art, Fashion Design and Visual Design leading to a College of Higher Education (CHE) - Professional Bachelor. The offer also includes the two specialist classes in photography and graphics with Federal VET Diploma apprenticeship qualification and the preliminary course/preliminary course as well as the vocational preliminary course.
