The aim of the training in couples coaching is to enable you to advise and support couples of any constellation as part of a short-term therapy in order to make life together worth living again for both parties, to resolve conflicts and to recognize and, if necessary, resolve dissatisfaction. During your training as a couple coach, you will learn the methods of working with couples that will help you to enable your clients to improve communication with each other, overcome crises, understand each other's behavior, process extramarital relationships or go through a peaceful separation. After completing the course, you will be able to carry out crisis intervention and make your partners' goals and wishes visible and develop solutions to implement them. As a prospective couple coach, you will also deal in depth with sexuality and its significance for a couple's relationship and will be able to anchor all the knowledge gained in therapy in the couple's subconscious and make them aware of its importance.

The title "relationship coach" is not yet protected, so it is possible to offer coaching for couples without the appropriate training. However, sound training is highly recommended so that you have the necessary tools to conduct successful relationship coaching sessions.

You should have the following qualities:

• Ability to think analytically
• No fear of confrontation and conflict
• Neutral and diplomatic stance
• Ability to reflect on oneself
• Openness with regard to the development of personality

There is no clear definition of what a relationship coach does, as the profession is not federally protected and coaches are very free in the design of relationship coaching sessions. As a rule, a relationship coach primarily listens to the client, mediates, leads the conversation, asks targeted questions, helps to process injuries and promotes mutual understanding and finding solutions and compromises.

What you earn as a relationship coach depends on various factors - especially as you are usually charged per session and work independently in your own coaching practice:

• Degrees and diplomas
• Size of the clientele
• Number of sessions

In Switzerland, the cost of a session is between approx. 120 and 500 francs.

The course in Couples Coaching is part of the training to become a certified Master Relationship and Family Coach and is a compulsory module that you must attend in addition to Family Coaching and Mediation for this degree. In addition, there are other optional modules available to you, which you can choose individually, such as nature coaching, mental hypnoanalysis, fear-grief-shame or systemic constellation work. The range of courses on offer is broad and allows you to continue to specialize within couples coaching.

The training in couples coaching / couples counseling is modular and assumes that you already have basic coaching training. You can usually do this training directly at the same school where you would like to complete your continuing education, further training in couples coaching and is required to provide you with the skills and methods you need for your future work as a couples coach. You can expect the basic training to take between six months and seven months, while the continuing education, further training to become a certified Master Relationship and Family Coach takes at least 28 days, although this can extend over a longer period depending on which modules you choose.
