My name is Alessandro Mattarel and, as Head of School at IBZ, I am responsible for the areas of mechanical engineering, metal construction and systems engineering. After my apprenticeship as a mechanical draughtsman, I completed my own continuing education, further training in CHE mechanical engineering and technical business management. I have gained professional experience in project management, purchasing and as a sales representative in technical sales. I have been able to use my technical background in adult education for a good three years. I accompany students and technical instructors through the CHE system technician courses. My valued area of responsibility at IBZ is comprehensive, exciting and challenging. The collaboration with my colleagues in the education sector is enriching and we support each other. My committed students give me great pleasure in my day-to-day work and I enjoy supporting them in their personal development.
IBZ has over 75 years of experience in technical continuing education, further training. We offer numerous qualified technical courses as a federally recognized College of Higher Education. This includes the CHE systems engineering technician. In our continuing education, further training prepares prospective system technicians in the best possible way for their future work in automation and we offer a high level of practical relevance during the part-time course.
In this area, the IBZ offers the Dipl. Techniker/in CHE Systemtechnik course with a specialization in automation. In addition to the system technician course, the IBZ also offers the courses Dipl. Techniker/in CHE Maschinenbau, Dipl. Techniker/in CHE Kunststofftechnik and Metallbau-Werkstatt- und Montageleiter/in mit eidg. Fachausweis.
The CHE degree course in systems engineering is aimed at anyone who works in the mechanical engineering industry (MEM sector) and would like to develop technical systems in the future using mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and IT. Admission is open to people who have a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET Diploma for short) and professional experience in the mechanical, electrical and metal industries. Good German language skills (at least B2 level), everyday knowledge of Office programs and very good mathematical skills are also required for the system technician apprenticeship. For the latter, we recommend attending a preliminary course in mathematics.
As a qualified CHE systems engineering technician, you can use the comprehensive specialist knowledge, leadership skills and business management know-how you have acquired to take on management tasks in the development of systems engineering components and assemblies. In IT or service companies, a managerial role in automation as a project manager or team leader is possible. In the job market, systems engineers are sought-after specialists who not only have the necessary specialist knowledge, but also have practical experience, think entrepreneurially and act responsibly. When engineering systems, systems engineers take into account the wishes and needs of the customer, the technical requirements and the environmental conditions of the application. We then offer additional postgraduate training at the IBZ in mechanical engineering or further CAS or MAS courses in cooperation with the Kalaidos University of Applied Sciences.

In the system technician course, we teach technical, methodological and social skills. The course content covers the basics of robotics, automation, electronics, drive technology, software engineering and plant engineering. This up-to-date technical knowledge is rounded off with business administration and management basics, leadership skills and communication skills. Our future systems engineers apply the specialist knowledge they have acquired in a dissertation, thereby demonstrating their skills.
The CHE course at the IBZ costs CHF 3,150 per semester, including all teaching materials. The subsidies from the canton in the form of education grants have already been deducted from these semester costs. The entire system technician CHE course takes 6 semesters and the subsequent diploma thesis takes an additional four months. An additional CHF 250 is charged for the enrollment fee. The diploma thesis costs a one-off contribution towards expenses of CHF 1,200.
We offer the system technician courses in Aarau, Bern and Zug. This means that the catchment area for those interested in systems engineering training extends across the cantons of Aargau, Basel, Bern, Lucerne, Schwyz and Solothurn. The IBZ training locations are modern and designed for practice-oriented teaching. They are easily accessible by public transport or by car. We also maintain close contact with the local machine industry.
At the IBZ, you can continue to work full-time alongside your CHE degree course in systems engineering, as lessons take place on a weekday evening and on Saturdays. Thanks to this professional activity and part-time lecturers, we guarantee the practical transfer of the material taught to systems engineers.
