Nach Bestehen der Prüfungen zum Versicherungsvermittler erlangen Sie einen Zertifikatsabschluss des VBV, des Berufsbildungsverbands der Versicherungswirtschaft. Dieser Abschluss berechtigt Sie dazu, sich bei der FINMA, der eidgenössischen Finanzmarktaufsicht, in das Register der ungebundenen Vermittler eintragen zu lassen, was notwendig ist, um einen unabhängigen Versicherungsvergleich durchführen zu dürfen (Art. 43, Abs. 1 VAG).

Um sich als Versicherungsvermittler einen unabhängigen Versicherungsvergleich durchführen zu können, benötigen Sie neben dem Zertifikatsabschluss des VBV zudem einen Eintrag in das Register der Finanzmarktaufsicht FINMA. Diese Registrierung ist für einen ungebundenen Vermittler notwendig, setzt jedoch voraus, dass dieser neben der fachlichen Qualifikation, die etwa über das VBV Zertifikat oder eine äquivalente Ausbildung erworben wurden, auch kein Strafregistereintrag gegen ihn oder sie vorliegen darf, die mit einer Tätigkeit als Vermittler nicht vereinbar sind und zudem keine Schuldscheine bestehen. Auch muss eine Berufshaftpflichtversicherung mit mindestens 2 Millionen Franken Deckungssumme oder vergleichbare finanzielle Sicherheiten vorliegen.
