In certain sectors, there is higher vocational training in the form of a professional examination (BP) or higher professional examination (HFP) to become a project manager. In most cases, there is no specific training. In other sectors, courses or specific further vocational training are offered that qualify a person for this function upon completion. There are also various training providers that offer general training in project management. However, internationally recognized certifications such as that of the IPMA (International Project Management Association) are also becoming increasingly important nowadays. In some sectors, however, a tertiary-level qualification (federal professional examination or higher professional examination, higher technical college, university of applied sciences, university of applied sciences) or further training at postgraduate level is a prerequisite for the role of project manager. In most cases, project managers must have professional experience in the respective professional field.
