Swissmechanic

Association portrait

About us

Swissmechanic represents the interests of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the strongly export-oriented metal, electrical and mechanical engineering industries (MEM) throughout Switzerland.

The more than 1,300 affiliated companies employ over 65,000 people, including 6,000 apprentices, and generate an annual turnover of around 15 billion Swiss francs.

The 14 sections of Swissmechanic offer inter-company courses for apprentices in the MEM professions, mostly in their own training centers. They are regionally rooted and networked and are committed to the regional concerns of their members. The umbrella organization Swissmechanic implements nationwide, cross-regional projects.

Target groups

The association addresses companies that manufacture their own products as well as suppliers and service providers within the MEM industry.

Training & continuing education, further training

  • Basic education:Through their regional training centers, the Swissmechanic sections ensure that Switzerland remains competitive as a workplace and that less central economic regions also have strong skilled workers and therefore strong SMEs. Since January 1, 2026, the development and distribution of educational media, the qualification process, professional maintenance and professional marketing, including the professional championships and professional revisions, have been implemented jointly with the partner association Swissmem.
  • Continuing education, further training:Swissmechanic's practice-oriented CHE Mechanical Engineering course leads in three years from Production Specialist with Federal Diploma of Higher Education to CHE Mechanical Engineering Technician. The course is offered in cooperation with partner schools. The four locations are geographically arranged in such a way that continuing education, further training can be optimally combined with work and private life.
