After completing the company mentor training, you will have in-depth skills in the area of self-reflection and coaching in a company context. You specialize in supporting people in a company environment in their search for their own solutions. You are usually in contact with managers and employees.
Training to become a company mentor with a Federal Diploma of Higher Education usually takes place on a part-time basis.Lessons, self-study and practical assignments take up a lot of time and require good time management. In practice, additional administrative work is required: Concepts, documentation and feedback evaluations are all part of the mentoring role. However, training requires not only time, but also financial investment.
The degree is not yet equally well established in all sectors and regions. The specific benefits depend heavily on the company and its understanding of further training (still not well established in some SMEs). Although company mentors are increasingly in demand, your long-term success depends on how strongly your company supports mentoring strategically.A clear career path as a mentor is not always guaranteed. In addition, Federal Diplomas of Higher Education are not generally recognized abroad - you must obtain official proof of this professional qualification from the SFBI.
Coaching means supporting people in difficult professional situations without unconsciously bringing your own likes and dislikes, moods and needs into a situation. This requires the ability to adapt to another person, analyze their situation and identify potential difficulties and disruptive factors. You help others to recognize and solve their problems themselves, which often requires patient restraint and a strong sense of empathy.Conflicts, performance problems or personal issues can be mentally demanding or even emotionally stressful.Ongoing self-reflection takes additional time and energy. As an in-company mentor, the challenge is to maintain clear boundaries between your role as a coach and your actual function in the company.Conflicts can arise between the expectations of the mentees and the organizational goals. And mentoring takes time:Changes in your mentees do not happen overnight - and your contribution as a mentor can only be measured in the medium term.
The pressure to pass the annual federal final examinations is high, but you are well prepared for this during the company mentor training. However, practical monitoring experience is required for admission to the Federal Professional Examination. If you have not advised and accompanied at least three people with problems or changes in their job as a team leader or external coach (at least 20 such accompaniments documented), you will not be admitted to the examination.
Coaching and mentoring methods are constantly evolving.Without regular continuing education, further training, the degree loses its relevance.
Company mentors are employed by companies in various sectors or work freelance for companies or organizations. Many practice their profession on a part-time basis.
