On the one hand, courses are offered for parents who want to take a closer look at parenting issues and are interested in sustainably improving the relationship between child and parents and positively promoting the child's development. On the other hand, schools and educational institutions offer courses that train interested parties to become coaches in parent coaching who want to work as parent counselors in the future. Depending on the training, interested parties without professional experience in a counseling role are admitted, as are those who are already working in counseling in the fields of social work, youth welfare, schools, youth and child psychiatry or youth work who want to delve deeper into this subject matter and learn about new concepts.

Various seminars are offered on the subject of parent coaching, aimed at the target group of parents who want to take part in a special course on modern parenting, a relaxed approach to their own children, the communication of values, world views, conflict resolution and many other issues relating to parenting. There are also courses that train counselors or prospective counselors to become parent coaches. These courses teach new concepts and methods (such as Marte Meo) or basic counseling skills, they are offered on individual topics, such as parent coaching for parents with mental disabilities or child protection, or as basic training for prospective parent counselors.

The admission requirements for a parent coaching course are determined independently by the schools. There may therefore be differences. However, there are often no restrictions.

Depending on your previous training and objectives, you can attend parent coaching courses lasting an evening or a few days, or complete coaching training courses lasting several months or an even longer period of time, which can be built on with further coaching or counseling training.

A parent coach is also called a parent educator. You usually become a parent coach by completing a parenting counseling course. This is usually a course with a certificate.
