Tipps und Entscheidungshilfen für die Ausbildungswahl

Have you successfully completed your bachelor's degree in geomatics, computer science, cartography or environmental sciences and are you still highly motivated to continue your education? Are you interested in geoinformation and spatial phenomena? Then specialize in geomatics and geoinformation with the Master's degree course in Geoinformation Technology and work with state-of-the-art measurement and information collection technologies in the future. During the three-semester full-time course or the slightly longer part-time course, you will be trained to become an expert engineer who deals competently with the acquisition, processing, evaluation and analysis of spatial phenomena and geoinformation.

Your career prospects as a specialist in the field of geoinformation technology are varied and challenging. You can apply your know-how and expert knowledge in areas such as archaeology, logistics, security or research and use your knowledge in a success-oriented manner. Pursue your professional career and complete the scientifically sound and practice-oriented Master's degree course in Geoinformation Technology.

Questions and answers

Current research focuses of the Master's program in Geoinformation Technology are currently (2016) 3D geosensors; mobile mapping; collaborative visual globes and mixed reality; geospatial imaging; geoanalysis and geomarketing; microdrones for remote exploration and others. For more information, please contact the FHNW directly using the contact form.

The Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) with a specialization in Geoinformation Technology is offered exclusively by the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland. In addition, theory and context modules, which make up around a third of the study period, take place in Zurich, Bern, Lausanne or Lugano and are offered to MSE students from all disciplines.

The Master's degree program in Engineering with a focus on Geoinformation Technology is aimed at motivated Bachelor's graduates with good to very good grades in computer science, geomatics, environmental sciences or cartography. Persons with an equivalent degree can also be admitted to the program.

The full-time Master's degree course in Geoinformation Technology lasts three semesters; the duration of the course is extended accordingly for part-time students.

The Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) with the specialization, the Master Research Unit (MRU), Geoinformation Technology comprises five central theory and context modules, a block module, events and project work to deepen the subject knowledge and a Master's thesis. The one-week block module in the third semester and the theory modules and context modules in the first two semesters take place at four central locations in Switzerland, while the in-depth modules take place exclusively at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland in Muttenz. Lectures, seminars and colloquia are held one day a week in the first and second semesters to deepen specialist knowledge and skills. Topics of the first semester are Spatio-Temporal Data Modelling (semantic-spatial-temporal) and geosensors; topics of the second semester are geo-visualization and multimedia cartography as well as geo-analysis and mobile geo-information (with wayfinding / routing). In addition, there are in-depth projects on various topics, such as geomarketing, 3D city modelling or geodata infrastructures in the first semester with one day per week and web geo-visualization, mobile mapping or 3D LBS in the second semester on two weekdays. In the third semester, a practice-oriented research project is carried out and the Master's thesis is written. There are also the central modules.

After successfully completing the Master's degree program in Geoinformation Technology, you will be awarded the title "Master of Science UAS in Engineering with specialization in Geomatics".
