What are the main disadvantages of kinesiology training?

After a thorough kinesiology training course, you will be able to detect energy blockages using a special muscle test and release them using gentle manual techniques (Touch for Health) or apply physical exercises and relaxation techniques. They combine various methods from Western and Chinese medicine. They also give nutritional recommendations and lead special exercises to promote the ability to concentrate and learn (Brain Gym).

The main disadvantages of a kinesiology training course are:

  1. Kinesiology training is not a federal qualification. However, training in basic medical principles in accordance with the regulations of the organizations of the working world (OdA) is a building block on the way to the federal final examination as a complementary therapist (OdA KT). Find out more about the course, the qualification and the associated career opportunities (e.g. EMR recognition for billing health insurance companies).
  2. At certificate level, the course content and admission requirements are generally not regulated and can be determined autonomously by the schools. However, the OdA and KineSuisse (professional association for kinesiology) have clear regulations and certified training quality. For the industry certificate in complementary therapy (OdA KT), an internship and a so-called "Tronc Commun" (natural science, social science and professional basics) must be completed in addition to the training in kinesiology.
  3. Kinesiology training usually takes place alongside work and usually lasts at least three to four years for a diploma course (up to eight years for a federal diploma). Good time management between work, study and leisure is required during the course.
  4. Working in kinesiology requires communication skills, empathy, discretion, good observation skills and a well-groomed appearance. Not everyone has all of these skills and not all of them can be acquired through kinesiology training.
  5. Even after completing the kinesiology course, the learning does not stop: If you want to work as a qualified complementary therapist, you ideally also need to take the Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) (as a complementary therapist with a federal diploma). Incidentally, only those who complete the entire training as a preparatory course for the Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) can benefit from federal subsidies.

Kinesiologists generally work independently in their own practice. This requires a high level of personal commitment and entrepreneurial thinking.
