Survey of consumer sentiment in the education sector
Between August 3 and 21, 2022, a survey on consumer sentiment in the education sector (continuing vocational training) was conducted via Facebook and Instagram.
The question was:Are you foregoing training/further education due to the current uncertain situation?
Here is the result:
Participants in the survey: 122
- Yes (waiver of training or further education): 31 votes (25.4%)
- No (waiver of training or further education): 67 votes (54.9%)
- Undecided: 24 votes (19.7%)
This survey is in line with the current general consumer sentiment survey conducted by the federal government (State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO) is levied on a quarterly basis.
Here are some tips for schools on how to attract additional people interested in education to your courses and training programs:
1. emphasize arguments for your school
- Why should people interested in education choose your school? Lecturers, training methods, evidence of trust (evaluations, experience reports, success rates in federal final examinations), location, etc.
2. follow-up activities
- Carry out follow-up activities by e-mail and telephone
3. competent advice
- Immerse yourself in the world of people interested in education: Why do people interested in education want to continue their education?
- Improving opportunities on the labor market
- Get a more interesting job
- Expand personal skills
- Professional reorientation
- Receive more pay
- etc.
- Combining the general needs of people interested in education with the benefits of a course:
- "Especially if you are looking for a more interesting job, I can recommend course xy. On the one hand, this course is well known in the job market. On the other hand, you can obtain a federal qualification, which greatly increases your chances on the job market and of finding a more interesting job."
- Combining the needs of people interested in education with the advantages of a school:
- "If a modern and varied training method is important to you, you've come to the right place. We offer you ... (mix of classroom and online teaching, practical workshops, online quizzes, gamification, etc.)"
4. sell next steps
- Sell next steps in the sales process, including benefits from the customer's perspective: information event, personal consultation on site or via video call, provisional course registration, definitive course registration
- Tip: Ask people interested in education how they rate their own school. If the feedback is generally positive, ask the following question: "When would you like to start course xy?". If the person interested in education would like to start in the near future, ask the following question: "May I reserve a place for you?". If the person interested in training is not sure, offer a provisional course registration: "I can also register you provisionally, so you have a place for sure". In our experience, a provisional course registration is an 80% course registration.
5 Why further training now?
- Further training is still the best personal investment. In addition to acquiring new skills, further training supports personal development by improving self-confidence, appearance and communication skills. Further training also increases your chances on the job market.
- Because some employees are currently more reluctant to undertake further training, people interested in education can gain a head start in the labor market right now
