Cosmetics training: tips and experiences from participant Patricia Zehnder - Later professional independence was a priority for me when working as a beautician.
Please tell us about yourself and your professional career.
My name is Patricia Zehnder and I run a beauty salon. I originally trained as an early childhood educator and then went on to train as a crèche manager. Due to a drastic event, I had to reorient myself professionally. How did I want to work in the future? I made a conscious decision to become self-employed because it meant I could decide when and how much I wanted to work.
Why did you decide to train as a beautician?
It was easy for me to decide to train as a beautician because I had already worked with people before. I wanted to continue to satisfy this need. The goal of doing something good for people excited me. With the cosmetic treatments, I can achieve this and also cover the psychological aspect of well-being. There is always an exchange of energy when touch is applied. That inspires me.
Where did you complete your cosmetics training?
I completed my cosmetics training at the Bella Vita Academy. This is a comprehensive one-year training course to become a beautician with a diploma. I chose this school because I was unable to move around in large crowds when I started my training. It would not have been possible for me to sit in a classroom with over 20 people at that time. That's why the small group with a maximum of 6 - 8 people suited me very well. I got in touch with the principal, sought a personal interview and also looked at the premises.
What do you particularly like about the beauty school?
I particularly like the atmosphere at the beauty school because it's quiet, warm and welcoming. I was taken by this. I felt a good sense of harmony during the course. Other reasons for choosing the school were the type of training, where the focus is always on the individual and the holistic nature of the treatments.
How can you apply your knowledge as a beautician in practice?
I apply the knowledge I have gained as a beautician to my work in my own practice within my own four walls. The founding of SoulSkin GmbH, my studio, was also a dream come true for me. I don't just want to work with and on the skin, I also want to be there with my soul.
How was the cosmetics training completed?
At this cosmetics school, the cosmetics training is completed with a diploma. In addition to the written, oral and practical examinations, this also includes writing the diploma thesis. This was a special experience for me because I was able to take many steps in my self-development during this time. I was able to process my past in the diploma thesis and record my further path with the cosmetics training through to setting up a business.
Would you recommend training to become a beautician?
I would certainly recommend the beautician training course to others because I was able to learn at a holistic level at the school. I was able to learn and benefit a lot from the instructor. In my opinion, it is a good reorientation for people who like to work with people and want to start their own business. To become a beautician, it is important to have the flair to want to come into contact with other people. You also need to overcome any possible shyness about touching people, because in the beauty profession we are in trusting contact with our customers.
