Are you a plumber with professional experience and want to move up to the executive floor? You can definitely achieve your career goal: Training or further training to become a plumber with a "Higher Professional Examination" is the best way to become a competent and conscientious manager as a plumber with a well-versed specialist knowledge. As a prerequisite, you must have a federal diploma and several years of professional experience in the plumbing industry. Opt for training or further training to become a plumber or, more recently, a master plumber and gain a greater sphere of influence and responsibility in a plumbing business.

As a plumber or master plumber, you may run your own plumbing business or take on a management position in a larger company. The focus of your work will therefore be on administrative and management tasks. For example, you will be responsible for recruitment. You will also look after your customers and be responsible for ensuring that your company is positioned profitably on the market. You plan orders and take care of them through to execution and invoicing. You will also visit construction sites and monitor the work of your employees.

During the minimum three-semester course to become a plumber, which you can complete while working, you will prepare for the higher professional examination (HFP), which you will pass with the federally recognized "Master Plumber" diploma. To this end, you will attend the following modules during the course, which are also relevant to the exam:

The qualification you obtain after training or continuing education, further training as a plumber depends on whether it is an apprenticeship or Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE). For example, you have the option of completing an apprenticeship with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET Diploma) or continuing education, further training to become a certified master plumber, formerly a certified plumber.

From 2019, 16 module qualifications must be completed before the final examination to become a certified master plumber (formerly certified plumber). The continuing education, further training for the Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) prepares students in detail for business management and, in addition to work organization and professional knowledge, also imparts knowledge relating to project planning, applied legal issues, finance, marketing, personnel management and business management. Graduates of the "Business Management" module are able to understand and analyze business and economic interrelationships and their effects on the company. They are able to create and understand a professional business plan. This module focuses on economics, business administration and corporate management.
