As a rule, all interested parties are admitted to courses and seminars in aromatherapy. Medical and therapeutic knowledge is not a prerequisite for attending the course.
The courses and modules conclude with the school's own certificates (confirmation of participation).
Courses usually conclude with examinations and sometimes also with a diploma thesis. The schools award their own titles.
The possibilities for recognition depend on the previous education:
Medical and complementary medicine expertise is important for the practical use of essential oils in humans and animals, as active ingredients administered incorrectly or in the wrong dosage can be toxic. Allergic reactions are also possible. Although many aromatherapy products are freely available commercially, recognition as an experiential medical method therefore requires medical, paramedical or curative training.
If you have not completed any medical or therapeutic training, you can become self-employed with aromatherapy, but not in the healthcare sector. However, there are many opportunities, for example in the wellness sector, advising on home, hotel or salesroom furnishings, etc.
