Breathing training - the path to deeper relaxation

In respiratory gymnastics - also known as breathing training - the human being is viewed as a holistic being, i.e. from a physical, psychological and social perspective. Breathing training has its origins in Far Eastern movement and breathing practices such as Qi Gong, Tai Chi and yoga.

Breathing training is used, for example, when it has been established that deep breathing has been almost completely forgotten or is difficult. Experiences, stress or lack of exercise also lead to shallow or uneven breathing. Superficial breathing leads to a lack of oxygen in individual organs or body parts, which in turn can be a cause of severe headaches, extreme tiredness or tension. In respiratory gymnastics, deeper relaxation is achieved through various movement exercises. We also relearn and consolidate abdominal breathing - our natural way of breathing.

Questions and answers

The duration of training in breathing training varies depending on the school and the qualification you are aiming for. However, for training to become a complementary therapist with an OdA KT industry diploma, you should reckon with around 2 - 3 years of in-service training.

If you would like to train as a respiratory therapist, you have the opportunity to obtain a diploma with health insurance recognition in order to work as a therapist. To do this, you generally need to have completed vocational training or higher education and, in the case of some schools, be at least 25 years old. The training in breathing training is primarily aimed at people who are already working in complementary medicine and would like to expand their field of work, or who would like to work in this field in the future and would like to deal intensively with health promotion, personal development and health promotion. Training in respiratory therapy is also ideal for anyone already working in a therapeutic, medical, artistic, educational or nursing environment who is looking for an effective form of therapy for their patients.

The areas of application of respiratory therapy are extremely varied, also due to the very diverse forms of therapy. Patients with a wide variety of illnesses, complaints, symptoms and concerns receive support from professionally trained and experienced respiratory therapists.
