Digital ideation: interface between design and computer science

The innovative and modern Bachelor's degree program in Digital Ideation offers creative IT minds an ideal opportunity to use their talents professionally. The degree program combines computer science and design, teaches a creative approach to the subject of computer science based on the latest design methods and is therefore a very diverse course of study that deals with the points of contact between machines and people, design and computer science, today and tomorrow.

The course offers numerous technical as well as creative aspects - depending on their focus, graduates work as designers and developers for computer games, as graphic designers, in the field of interaction design or web design. The various compulsory elective modules offer a wide range of focal points and specialization options during the course:

  • Game (programming, computer graphics, mathematics, storytelling, audio)
  • User Experience (Human Computer Interactions HCI, usability and user-friendly design in graphics)
  • Web and mobile (design and development of apps)

Digital ideation specialists are highly sought-after in the business world. After successfully completing their Bachelor's degree, they find exciting job opportunities in the information industry, the communications sector and the games industry. However, large corporations from other industries and public administrations and organizations are also increasingly focusing on ideation and innovation - the job opportunities after graduation are therefore very varied and interesting and specialists in these areas are in high demand everywhere.

The students can choose one of these courses when they register.

Depending on the chosen field of study, graduates of the Bachelor's degree program in Digital Ideation can pursue a variety of careers. People with a focus on "design" often work as web designers, interaction designers, co-creators, game designers, media designers, user experience designers or visual designers (and their female counterparts). Those who have focused on computer science, on the other hand, can work as web developers, game developers, computer scientists, user experience engineers, creative engineers or media technicians.

After the second semester of the Bachelor's degree in Digital Ideation, students are able to choose one of three subject areas in which they would like to specialize and from which they select their modules individually. These are

  • Web & Mobile
  • Game
  • User Experience

The UAS degree program in Digital Ideation is extremely practice-oriented, for example thanks to the project modules / project work. These involve writing code and sketching concepts, soldering circuits, designing programs, creating virtual worlds and researching new technologies. This enables students to acquire applied and real-world know-how and experience.

The Bachelor's degree program in Digital Ideation with a focus on design consists of a large number of specialist modules, transdisciplinary modules, theory and transfer modules as well as elective modules. The specialist modules cover topics such as Visual Design, Algorithmic Thinking & Programming, IDA: Digital Design Re-thinking the Web Standards, Advanced Design Topics and Storytelling, while the transdisciplinary modules focus on Digital Technologies Fundamentals, Game Design & Engineering, User Experience Design & Engineering, Physical Prototyping, Computer Graphics & Computational Perception and Web&Mobile Design & Engineering. The theory and transfer modules cover specialist theory, fundamentals of digital culture, ideation labs in each semester as well as the semester and Bachelor's thesis. There are also elective modules in the areas of Mentoring Design Video & Audio, Object & Space, 3D Animation, Illustration & Typography, Information Aesthetics, Emerging Technologies, Physical Prototyping extended, Audio Design, Computer Graphics Extended and others.
