Industrial Foreman Continuing Education (AFPE) (now: Industrial Production Manager): For a Successful Career Advancement into Management

Are you looking for a continuing education, further training program that prepares you for a leadership position in the business world and is recognized throughout Switzerland? If so, the program leading to a Federal Diploma as an AFPE (male) or AFPE (female) (now: Industrial Production Manager) might be exactly the right educational opportunity for you.

They work in industry and are active in various fields within that sector. An industrial foreman or forewoman must possess the following skills: working in a team, leading employees, training employees, solving problems using the correct methodology, and communicating persuasively. In addition to these requirements, the following apply: completion of a vocational apprenticeship, and several months of experience in a leadership role as a group leader, foreman, workcell leader, shift supervisor, team leader, or assistant industrial foreman.

Some schools also require students to pass an entrance exam. The continuing education program to become an Industrial Foreman (AFPE) (now: Industrial Production Manager) is designed for managerial staff who are slated for a position as an industrial foreman, department head, or line supervisor in production, maintenance, service, logistics, or similar fields—or who already hold such a position and wish to perform their duties with even greater professionalism. They serve as the link between senior management and the operational staff on the shop floor or in the workplace. They make a decisive contribution to the cost-effectiveness of service delivery and, consequently, to the success of the company.

The goal of this continuing education, further training program is to teach participants important leadership techniques that will help them succeed in the workplace. Through various learning topics, key competencies are taught and practiced. This Industrial Master Craftsman program, for example, trains you in the areas of business administration, communication, leadership, production management, project management, and the business environment, and lasts approximately one year while you continue working. This means, for example, that you’ll have classes one evening a week and on one Saturday, so you’ll still be able to continue at least 90 percent of your current work. However, there are also schools where you can attend classes two evenings or one full day during the week, allowing you to choose the continuing education program to become an Industrial Master Craftsman/woman AFPE (new: Industrial Production Manager) that best suits your preferences and schedule.
