Who are you and what apprenticeship are you doing?

My name is Nico Fortino. I am 17 years old. I am currently completing my apprenticeship as a Federal VET Diploma computer scientist in application development at WISS.

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship as a Federal VET Diploma computer scientist specializing in application development?

I have opted for theFederal VET Diploma computer scientistI decided to do an apprenticeship specializing in application development because I was interested in technology from an early age. Working with computers has always been a hobby for me, which I would now like to turn into a career.

Why did you choose the WISS School for the Federal VET Diploma in Computer Science apprenticeship?

I checked various schools for the Federal VET Diploma in Computer Science course. The WISS school was the best option for me because the interview with the course supervisor left me with the most competent impression. I really liked the school.

What do you like best about teaching computer science so far?

What I like best about the Federal VET Diploma in Computer Science specializing in application development so far is working with other students. I have found very good colleagues at WISS, who I also listen to a lot in my private life and do things with. For me, the social interaction at WISS is just right. I also like the constant support from the teachers, which you can ask for.

Have there been any difficult and challenging moments for you in your IT apprenticeship so far?

The difficulty for me is to drive forward and complete several projects together. We are often involved in several projects for different modules. It's difficult to invest the same amount of learning time in all of them and not get overwhelmed. The simple modules and subjects in the Federal VET Diploma computer scientist apprenticeship are naturally more relaxed and take some of the pressure off.

What is your goal after your apprenticeship as a Federal VET Diploma computer scientist specializing in application development?

My first goal is to complete my apprenticeship as a Federal VET Diploma computer scientist specializing in application development. First of all, I want to do some practical work and earn some money. After the military, I would like to orient myself in the market and could well imagine further development in the direction of front-end engineering in order to be able to create graphics and beautiful websites.

What further development opportunities does the IT apprenticeship offer?

With the Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training specializing in application development, there is a good selection of professions for which you can continue your training. These include, for example, federal certificates as an ICT application developer, ICT system and network technician, business IT specialist or mediamatician.

Has your apprenticeship as a Federal VET Diploma computer scientist specializing in application development increased your satisfaction?

Yes, my apprenticeship as a Federal VET Diploma computer scientist specializing in application development has already increased my satisfaction. I have learned a lot. I was able to program websites or create various programs myself.

Have you already achieved personal success during your apprenticeship as a computer scientist?

We had a module during the Federal VET Diploma computer scientist apprenticeship where we had to create a video on a certain topic. I then decided to animate the video. Thanks to my mother, I was able to buy a drawing tablet. I drew the video frame by frame on this tablet and created a cool little video from it.

I would recommend an apprenticeship as a Federal VET Diploma computer scientist specializing in application development to anyone who is interested in computer science. Anyone who is enthusiastic about HTML or programming languages, for example. But also anyone who is looking for good basic training in the field of digitalization.

Was there a key moment for you during your computer science apprenticeship?

A key moment during my apprenticeship as a Federal VET Diploma computer scientist specializing in application development was discovering the skill of animation and digital drawing. Also learning all the programming languages such as HTML, CSS, Java/Java Script/Java Frameworks or PHP - you can always use these if you work in IT. Projects such as programming websites for yourself are also a great thing.

What do you like best about the lessons during your Federal VET Diploma in Computer Science specializing in application development?

My favorite part of the Federal VET Diploma IT Specialist Application Development course is the presentations. We are given an assignment and a timetable. In such group work, you have freedom in planning, content and implementation.

How do you get on with each other at school?

We always get on well with each other. Of course, there are sometimes differences during the Federal VET Diploma apprenticeship. But in the end, everything always runs smoothly. We also form "groups" in the Federal VET Diploma computer scientist apprenticeship. With the small class, it's not so loud and a wild mess. With 11 people, it is much more pleasant to work in a concentrated manner. The equipment in the training rooms and the PCs are very good and always clean. Everything is modern. There are requirements for the laptops, which we buy and bring ourselves. We are free to choose the brand and we get to know our laptop well over time.

Would you choose a Federal VET Diploma apprenticeship as a computer scientist again?

I would certainly choose the Federal VET Diploma apprenticeship in IT again. It was a good decision. I met a lot of interesting people and achieved a lot personally.

Do you already have an internship?

I'm still looking for an internship as part of my apprenticeship as a Federal VET Diploma computer scientist after the summer. I'm sure I'll find something suitable and great. There I can apply the specialist knowledge I have learned in the two years of full-time school in the company and put it into practice.
