What are the main disadvantages of cosmetics training?

After a thorough cosmetics training course, you will be able to carry out beauty, body care and wellness treatments. You will advise customers on the treatments.

The main disadvantages of cosmetics training are

  1. The completion of cosmetics training is not always federally recognized, it can also be a certificate or a course confirmation. The SFK - Swiss Professional Association for Cosmetics can provide guidance. It is advisable to compare the various offers or to check the Federal Professional Examination.
  2. At certificate level, the course content and admission requirements are generally not regulated and can be determined autonomously by the schools. When choosing a course, make sure that it supports your professional goals. In the case of association certificates or Federal Professional Examinations, there are clear regulations and thus a guarantee of quality.
  3. A job in cosmetics requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, empathy and organizational talent as well as a clean working style and a sense of hygiene. Customer and service orientation are also required. Not all of these skills are present in every person and not all of them can be acquired through cosmetics training.
  4. The costs of CHF 5,000 to CHF 9,000 for comprehensive cosmetics training are only subsidized by the federal government if the Federal Professional Examination is passed.
  5. Cosmetics training can make the step into self-employment possible. However, success only comes with experience and a good response. In addition to advising and looking after customers, running a beauty salon also involves administrative tasks, scheduling, costing and marketing. Various pieces of equipment are also required for self-employment, which are associated with high investment costs.

Beauticians work in a beauty salon, in wellness hotels, on cruise ships or as self-employed beauticians.
