As this theoretical calculation does not take into account any further salary increases, promotions or interest on savings, the salary can still increase significantly.

Continuing education, further training CHE systems engineering technician: CHF 60,156.40

  • 36 months, part-time
  • Tuition fees, documents, enrollment fees: CHF 22'750
  • Diploma examination and intermediate diploma: CHF 2,040
  • Loss of earnings due to 80% employment: CHF 35,366.40 (CHF 4,912 x 12 x 3 = CHF 176,832 / 100 x 20 = CHF 35,366.40)
    Total training costs: CHF 60,156.40

Salary difference and return calculation: CHF 604,000

  • Difference in salary between the position of Federal VET Diploma automation technician and the position of CHE systems technician: CHF 6,332 - CHF 4,912 = CHF 1,420 per month and CHF 17,040 per year (12 x CHF 1,420 = CHF 17,040)
  • He recoups the total training costs of CHF 64,991.20 in just over 3 years with the higher systems technician salary (CHF 64,991.20 / CHF 17,040 per year = 3.1 years)
  • Over the remaining 39 years until his retirement (26 to 65), this additional income will add up to CHF 664,560 (39 x CHF 17,040 = CHF 664,560)
  • If the training costs are deducted from this additional income, an additional sum of around CHF 604,000 remains at his disposal(CHF 664'560 - CHF 60'156.40 = CHF 604'403.60)

The training costs correspond to an average of the "Systems Engineering CHE" courses offered in German-speaking Switzerland.
