What are the main disadvantages of pedicure training?

After thorough pedicure training, you will be able to treat feet cosmetically. You will carry out care and decorative measures on healthy feet (diseased feet are taboo). This not only ensures beautiful feet, but also promotes well-being and health.

The main disadvantages of pedicure training are:

  1. The completion of pedicure training is not federally recognized, it is a certificate or a course confirmation. There is no recognized and regulated training. It is therefore advisable to compare the various offers.
  2. At certificate level, the course content and admission requirements are generally not regulated and can be determined autonomously by the schools. When choosing a course, make sure that it supports your professional goals. Recognized courses offered by the relevant associations in Switzerland (Swiss Chiropody Association SFPV, Professional Association of Chiropody Switzerland BVFS) guarantee a certain level of quality assurance.
  3. In addition to hygiene awareness, clean and careful working methods, a job in pedicure also requires a sense of beauty, customer and service orientation. Not everyone has all these skills, and not all of them can be acquired through pedicure training.
  4. The training costs of CHF 2,500 to CHF 7,000 for the more extensive training courses are not subsidized by the federal government, as no federal examination is taken. The extra-occupational form often leads to a double burden, but hardly any loss of salary. An electric pedicure chair, materials and various utensils are required to practice the profession independently.
  5. After completing pedicure training, you are not a podiatrist. As a cosmetic pedicurist, you may only treat healthy feet. Corns of any kind, nail fungus or plantar warts may not be treated. Ingrown nails may be treated.

Cosmetic chiropodists work in a practice, in a beauty salon, are self-employed or employed, or can open their own practice.
