CHE nursing specialist: What are the disadvantages of the degree program?

As a qualified nurse CHE, you will be able to care for people of all ages and accompany them through the various phases of illness and death. You will plan care measures and carry them out independently. You will communicate regularly with patients, relatives and other professionals. They also implement health promotion and prevention measures.

Nursing specialist CHE - the most important disadvantages are:

  1. Due to the duration of study of three to four years (part-time or full-time), the CHE nursing specialist course requires a great deal of time commitment and a high degree of self-discipline and motivation.
  2. Despite cantonal contributions, the entire CHE course costs between CHF 4,200 and CHF 6,000, depending on the school.
  3. The CHE qualification is not well known outside Switzerland and not all foreign managers working in Switzerland are familiar with the CHE qualification and its significance.
  4. In addition to a sense of responsibility, a qualified job in nursing requires a keen sense of observation, communication skills and the ability to work in a team. You also need to be open to high levels of mental and physical stress, be willing to work flexible hours and have a sense of hygiene and cleanliness. Many of these skills cannot be acquired through a CHE nursing degree alone.
  5. Nurses have close contact with patients of all ages and carry out certain activities in patients' homes. They have irregular working hours and have to work night shifts. Part-time work is possible. As there is currently a shortage of qualified nursing staff in Switzerland, career prospects are good.

CHE nurses work in healthcare institutions, e.g. in hospitals, nursing homes, psychiatric clinics or Spitex centers. They work in teams with other professionals such as doctors, physiotherapists and medical practice assistants. CHE nurses can also work independently with the appropriate cantonal permit.
