The Master's degree course to become a special education teacher takes place full-time over 3 semesters, part-time and part-time from 4 semesters.

For admission to the Master's degree course in Special Education, prospective students must have a recognized teaching diploma for regular classes (kindergarten, Primary Level, Secondary Level, specialist group teacher) or a Master's degree in Early Special Education.

Persons without a teaching diploma can be admitted as lateral entrants and qualify for admission with a diploma in speech therapy or psychomotor therapy recognized by the EDK or a Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g. educational science, social pedagogy, social work, psychology, occupational therapy) subject to additional credits (30 ECTS credits).

Admission is also dependent on an assessment (including a letter of motivation). The assessment examines the basis for the development of the necessary professional, methodological, social and personal skills.

The continuing education, further training master's degree in special education is aimed at teachers who work or plan to work as IS teachers (integrated special education in primary, secondary or orientation schools), as IF teachers (integrative support in regular classes), teachers for small classes or teachers at special education schools or in special education centers.

Classroom teaching for the course in Special Education takes place on one day per week only. In addition, there are 1.5 days of self-study, e-learning and preparation and follow-up time. There are also two block weeks per semester.
