What are the disadvantages of trustee training?

Fiduciaries with a Federal Diploma of Higher Education are able to advise their clients on accounting, personnel administration, taxes and legal issues and support them with tax returns, VAT settlements or debt collection, for example. They are also responsible for the accounting and auditing of private and public companies. They analyze their clients' documents in order to optimize their accounting and financial situation.

The most important disadvantages of trustee training are:

  1. As trustee training usually takes place over five semesters alongside work, it is very time-consuming and restricts your free time.
  2. If you want to work in the fiduciary sector, you need specialist knowledge, analytical skills, good business management skills and a good knowledge of accounting. You also need to be service-oriented and have a strong sense of responsibility. All these skills cannot be acquired through a fiduciary training course alone.
  3. The Federal PET Diploma is not recognized abroad. Anyone wishing to work abroad must therefore request official proof of this professional qualification from the State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation SERI in order to prove their eligibility.
  4. The modules cannot be completed individually, but must be completed in an interdisciplinary manner at a specific point in time. The examination pressure at the annual federal final examinations is high, but is specifically prepared for during the fiduciary training. This can be difficult if you have exam nerves. However, there are mock examinations and learning checks beforehand.
  5. As a trustee, you have to be flexible. When preparing annual financial statements or tax returns, you sometimes have to expect to work overtime. Self-employed professionals are often on the road to meet their clients on site.

After training as a fiduciary, you will find work in accounting departments in all sectors of the economy, for example at banks, trust companies, in industry or in public administration.
