What are the main disadvantages of parent coaching training?
After the parent coaching training, you will be focused on parenting skills and multisystemic cooperation. The goal of parenting is mentally healthy and stable children and adults. You will support parents and educators in shaping the upbringing and education of their children in a stimulating and responsible way and in overcoming crises.
The main disadvantages of parent coaching training are:
- Completion of a parent coaching training course with a certificate is not a federal certificate. It is usually a specialization following training as a specialist in education, coaching, social work, health or other previous training in individual psychology. Find out more about the course, the qualification and the associated career opportunities. An alternative would be a CAS module at a Universities.
- At certificate level, the course content and admission requirements are generally not regulated and can be determined autonomously by the schools. However, there are usually regulations for association diplomas. Ask the providers of parent coaching training whether and which associations recognize their diplomas or what else is required for association recognition. The AAI SGIPA diploma, for example, is recognized by the Swiss Association for Individual Psychology. There is also recognition by the SGfB (Swiss Society for Counseling).
- Anyone who wants to work in parent coaching must have a high level of stamina, frustration tolerance and resilience. In addition to analytical and structured thinking, openness, empathy, the ability to reflect and goal orientation are also required. Not everyone has these personal qualities.
- Parents are confronted with single-parent families, patchwork families, divorce, dealing with school, exercise, media etc.. This presents parents with tasks that they cannot always master alone. So the task is not always easy.
- The training costs of CHF 4,000 to CHF 20,000 for more extensive training courses are not subsidized by the federal government and are generally not covered by the employer. The extra-occupational form often results in a double burden, but hardly any loss of salary.
Graduates of a parent coaching course usually work on a freelance basis. They provide their services in the form of courses, coaching and individual consultations, for example.
