The following requirements must be met for admission to the Communication Specialist course:

• Completion of a 3-year vocational education and training (VET) program in the commercial, graphic arts or retail trade sector

or

• Completion of a Commercial Secondary School, a 3-year Specialized School, a Baccalaureate, an Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE), a University of Applied Sciences or a University of Applied Sciences in the commercial field

or

• Federal Diploma of Higher Education as a PR, marketing, sales or dialog marketing specialist

and

• 2 years of professional experience in the fields of communication, advertising, public relations, marketing, sales or direct/dialog marketing

or

• another Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training, diploma or degree from a technical college or Universities

and

• 3 years of professional experience in the fields of communication, advertising, public relations, marketing, sales or direct/dialog marketing

Persons with at least three years of professional experience in the fields of PR, communication, marketing, advertising, sales or direct marketing and a Federal VET Diploma, a diploma from an Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE), a College of Higher Education or a University are also eligible for admission.

The following admission requirements apply to the Federal Professional Examination for Communication Specialists with a Federal PET Diploma with regard to the required qualifications and professional experience in the fields of communication, advertising, PR, marketing, sales or direct/dialogue marketing:

• Completion of a 3-year vocational education and training (VET) program in the commercial, graphic arts or retail trade sector
• or completion of a Commercial Secondary School, a 3-year Specialized Secondary School, a Baccalaureate, an Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE), a College of Higher Education or a University of Applied Sciences in the commercial field.
• or a federal certificate as a PR, marketing, sales or dialog marketing specialist
• and 2 years of professional experience

or

• another Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training
• or diploma
• or diploma from a University of Applied Sciences
• or diploma from a Universities
• and 3 years of professional practice

The following key professional skills are taught during a communication specialist training course:

• Supporting customers or clients
• (Co-)developing communication strategies and concepts
• Realize and produce marketing communication
• Plan and implement further communication tools
• Realize applications in digital media
• Planning and implementing media use
• Carry out administrative (commercial) tasks
• Perform specific tasks (legal matters, presentations, market research, etc.)
• Monitor deadlines and costs

Graduates of the Communication Specialist (FPE) course are able to

• Develop communication strategies and communication concepts or be involved in their development
• to look after or help look after customers or clients
• Produce and implement communication or marketing measures
• To plan and implement appropriate communication instruments or to be significantly involved in them
• Plan, organize and implement media assignments
• Monitor and control deadlines and budget
• Perform administrative tasks

Since 2019, graduates of the continuing education, further training course for communication specialists have been awarded the federally recognized and protected title of "Communication Specialist with Federal Diploma of Higher Education" or "Communication Specialist with Federal Diploma of Higher Education".

In English: "Executive in communications, Federal Diploma of Higher Education"

With continuing education, further training as a communication planner (since 2019 communication specialist with Federal Diploma of Higher Education), graduates have the opportunity to work in a wide variety of smaller or larger companies and organizations, as well as in communication, advertising and media agencies, publishing houses or advertising companies.

Communication specialists have the following opportunities for further development:

• Higher professional examination for the federal diploma in communication management
• Higher professional examination for the Federal Diploma in Marketing Management
• With a vocational baccalaureate: university of applied sciences degree in communication with a focus on journalism/organizational communication or business administration with a specialization in marketing
• With qualified professional and management experience (admission "sur dossier"): Postgraduate studies at a university of applied sciences EMBA Business Administration - Strategic Marketing, Marketing Management or Communication Management
